The development of a product is a complex process which requires a large amount of resources and various types of expertise. In order to remain competitive, companies must manage this process effectively and efficiently. The fundamental concerns of a project manager are to determine a projects duration, effort, and cost. To accurately estimate these factors would resolve many problems related to forecasting, scheduling, bidding and reputation. Design effort estimation is a primefactor in the prediction of these factors. Early prediction of design effort must be estimated as early as possible in order to properly predict lead time, cost and allocation of resources throughout the product development process. In this book, a method for design estimation is presented and implemented through a case study in a leading global aircraft engine manufacturer.
